Of course, I forgot about Crimea as a wine producing region. I haven't tried Crimean wine, though, that's a task for my next trip.
I heard a nasty rumour from a Georgian emigrant friend of mine that the tee-totaller Gorbachev ordered many vineyards to be burned, so that the locals wouldn't drink so much, thereby eradicating many hundreds of years of good vines. Is that true?
: Vineyards - and yes, they are of the sweet variety.
: I am partial to Georgian wines - especialy Kimzmaurali and Alazhani - but the Crimean wines are nothing to overlook!
