Especially if they are not flattering or might draw world attention to the horrible pollution problem there. I have seen no published statistics of anh sort - but if you spend even a few days there, you will quickly discover that most residents are, themselves, quite worried about hte state of the ecology there. The only 'hard' evidence, if you want to call it that - is one of the larger cancer centers in Ukraine is located in Mariupol.
I can also tell you this - I have worked around industrial facilities for nearly all my professional career. I have never, ever even come close to the experience of one June day when driving across town and I *knew* we were very near to one of the steel plants, but I could see nothing more than the very top of the stacks spewing out noxious clouds of pollutants. We were within 100 yards of one of the largest industrial facilities I have ever seen - and I could not see it - except for the aforementioned stacks - at their very top.
As for the National Geographic article, it was (as I recall) published prior to them putting their materials on-line. I have not been able to find an on-line edition and am relying on my memory from some (maybe significant) years ago.
