hello ,
if you are flying to Kiev , much better take a train directly from Kiev to Mukachevo. It is much cheaper then later go from Lvov by taxi on the road covered by snow.
There are around 4 trains, Kiev -Uzhgorod, Moskva-Budapest , Kiev -Praga, Harkov -Uzhgorod, it could be more .
if you come via Lviv , it is nonsence to go by taxi trough snow pass, take one of even more numerous trains.
if you need any hiking guide check http://zhehar.tripod.com/carpathians.html

: Seeking basic information on how to travel from the US to Mukacheve and Vinogradov, Ukraine in order to conduct genealogy research. Are flights available to Kiev and other large cities such as Lvov? Are car rentals available? What abou trains to Mukacheve and hotels there?

: Once in the area, are there any local contacts who speak English that can assist with research at the main synagogue in Mukacheve.

: I am brand new at this and all help would be much appreciated.
