: I am trying to fly my girlfriend from Kiev to London, but she is being told that the embassy will not issue her with a visa (no relatives in UK). We have not met. Does anyone know what visas are available and what the conditions are for each? Surely she can visit the UK as a tourist??? If so, is it possible for her to convert her status to a "provisional resident" without leaving the UK??

Provisional resident ?? Absolutely no chance mate. See my post just below about British visas

As for travelling via Canada as suggested, forget that. Immigration is a hot topic now in UK, dont try and think you can pull a fast one on the immigration officers, they have seen it all before. She would end up deported from UK with that fact stamped in her passport. No other country will let her in after that.

Business visa-maybe. Tourist visa for a single woman ( I pressume no kids ) extremely unlikely.

You realy have to of at least met the girl before considering bringing her to England. Take a look at the past posts on this list and go to Kiev, its great there.
