As a service member in the US I am proud of what we do. As soldiers we try to help the people of Ukraine, regardless of the politics of why we are there. Even if our government has a hidden agenda, our military is there and helping the people. We have helped restore medical aide, education and assistance to orphans. And we are trying our best to give the people of Iraq a chance of governing themselves as they see fit, not dominated by a murderer.
And I have seen how the military in Ukraine treats it's soldiers, in Ukraine. I would not want to serve in those conditions. I am proud of my sister-in-law's husband, and his brother, who is voulentarly serving in the the Ukrainian Army.
And if you read the news... You've got Ukrainians trying to carry uranium (1 lbs. of the stuff)over the border, "to be used at a dentists office." Please, don't tell me he had no idea... And that it would have been used for some kind of bomb.
Don't stand too long on your soapbox. Remember, there are Ukrainians going to Iraq and trying to do good in the world.
I am very proud of my wife's home country. And I respect the opnion of the people. But what bothers me is to have someone snipe at individuals based on a country's political position.
Ukraine is one of the few countries left that have mandatory service. The other countries that have used it in the past have dropped it or are slowly moving away from it.
Let's not forget that for the right price the governent can be bought and you don't have to serve.
