Because according to my russian friend Victor is easer for a foreigner to learn russian than ukrainian language,besides as a foreigner you would find a lot of williness and understanding from ukrainian people so if you were russian citizen maybe they could have demanded for you to speak ukrainian as you are in their country.("easer" on base of the complexity from the 2 languages).At the end of Victor's advise FOR FOREIGNERS MUCH BETTER TO LEARN RUSSIAN INSTEAD UKRAINIAN IN UKRAINE.
