kolo nas #14 took place at ra gallery on tuesday may 23, 2007. For the first time a film was shown in the series of art, poetry and music events Yara has sponsored in the galleries of Kyiv.

The film was Andrea Odezynska’s The Whisperer which Yara helped produce. As Jennifer Wollerman wrote reviewing the short film: “When the Yara Arts Group visited a small village in Ukraine several years ago to research and collect traditional Ukrainian songs, Andrea Odezynska, a frequent collaborator of the group, tagged along as videographer to informally document the process. We soon learn in her intensely personal and moving short documentary, that she had another reason for being there.”

This was the first viewing of the film in Ukraine and all present loved it and agreed that it must be translated and find a distributor in the country. As luck would have it one of the spectators was Oksana Batiutk who has made a career of translating into Ukrainian of the best American films for Ukrainian television.

The Whisperer will be shown in New York this summer at the Film Anthology as part of the Rural Route Festival.
