The Ukrainian Institute of America and the Yara Arts Group presented a special art and poetry event. For the first time Yara’s round us (kolo nas), which usually takes place in Kyiv, took place in New York. Kolo nas #15 – Blue Angel 6/24 featured the poetry of Marjana Savka from Lviv, translated by Askold Melnyczuk and interpreted by Swiss conceptual artist Andrea Loux.

Marjana Savka is the author of four books of poetry, including Eight Notes from the Blue Angle that was translated by Askold Melnyczuk and published by Arrow-smith Press.

Andrea Loux’s work moves between performance, installation, video and photography. She brings into focus and transforms spaces and situations. Her work has been exhibited at the Kunst-halle Bern, Art Museum Magdeburg, Center for Contemporary Art Kyiv, Contemporary Art Gallery Krakow. For the poetry performance with Marjana Savka, she created a visual vocabulary and choreography .

The event took place on Sunday June 24th at Ukrainian Institute of America. It featured Marjana Savka performing her poems in Ukrainian, while Ezra Knight performed the English translation. Ezra Knight is a performer of stage, television and film with 25 years of professional experience. Most recentely he was seen with F. Murray Abraham in The Merchant of Venice and The Jew of Malta in New York City and at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-von England. The performance was copordinated by Svitlana Matviyenko and Virlana Tkacz was the consulting director.
